''AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS,'' starring Tom Everett Scott and Julie Delpy. What's next? Let's just say that alien slime atop the Empire State Building isn't out of the question next time around (Janet Maslin). Ryder as one of its better attractions, the film also features much pulsing and propagating, along with aliens who move like little raptors.

Jeunet, a director of ''Delicatessen'' and ''The City of Lost Children,'' brings his murkiest ingenuity to the tale of a newly cloned Ripley, played in fierce, sardonic style by the incongruously elegant Ms. Maybe it counts as a compliment among those who savor the dripping, throbbing, drooling intensity of the ''Alien'' movies to say that this is the most freakish and macabre installment to date.
